Four Upper Peninsula Students Have Received Scholarships From The Upper Peninsula Sports Hall Of FameMay 12, 2003 - Jill Recla of Kingsford, Korry Schwanz of Menominee, Chrisopher Kupitz of Bessemer and Benjamin Seppala of Chassell each received $500 scholarships for each of the next four years.A total of 28 Upper Peninsula athletes have received scholarships from the Sports Hall of Fame since the program's inception in 1997. Recla plans to study bioformatics at Michigan Tech University. She had a 4.023 GPA and received three varsity volleyball letters and is working on her fourth track letter. Schwanz, who will play basketball at the University of Chicago, is a two-time All-U.P. Dream Team selection in basketball, where she earned four letters. She also has four track letters and two volleyball letters. She has a 4.04 GPA and is her class valedictorian. She plans to study pre-med and biology. Kupitz will attend Michigan Tech University after compiling a 4.0 GPA. He will study chemistry. Kupitz earned two letters in football and basketball and one in track. He also earned an Eagle Scout award in Boys Scouts. Seppala carries a 3.949 GPA and will study engineering in college, but has not decided where he will go to school. He earned four cross country letters and is working on his fourth in track. He also has two basketball letters. |
